Interesting Facts about Flowers
A flower, also known as a bloom or blossom, is the reproductive structure found in flowering plants (plants of the division Magnoliophyta, also called angiosperms). The main parts of a flower are the carpels and stamens. These parts are often found in the center of the flower. There are egg cells in the carpel an pollen cells in the stamen. All flowers have four basic parts: sepals, petals, carpels and stamen. Different flowers have different numbers and shapes of these parts.
In addition to serving as the reproductive organs of flowering plants, flowers have long been admired and used by humans, mainly to beautify their environment, but also as a source of food.
But what does a Flower say
Through the ages humans have showed their emotions through flowers - love, hate, pain, friendship, sympathy and so much more.
Also in many cultures and religions flowers have and will always play an important part:
- Both in worship and in portrayals of the Divine, Hindus are infatuated with flowers.
The very name of the Hindu worship ritual, puja, can be translated as "flower act".
- In Victorian England "flower readers" were highly sought after for their interpretation of flowers send to enemies, friends and lovers.
It seems as if flowers always have something to say - whether we know the meaning or not.
Following is a list of flowers and their meanings. You will see that some flowers have many meanings - so in reality the meaning of a flower is dependent on what the giver wants it to represent. Just make sure that the recipient of your flowers know what you want to say.
